liverworts on top of azalea soil

I bought a Kiusianum azalea (Rhody)yesterday that looked promising for a bonsai.

When I started to clean it up I saw liverworts on the top of the soil. In the back of my mind I seem to remember that this was not a good sign.

Is this true? If it is, Why?

Is there anything that can be done if it's not good for the plant or should it be brought back to the nursery.

This is also posted on the bonsai site.
