Good afternoon

I have a beautiful Australian Tree Fern. It has recently developed a white sticky powder on it's stalks and fronds.

the newest growth was infested with it and spread to neighboring fronds......

what is this subltance and how can I control/eliminate it....

RE: white sticky powder on stalks and fronds

Try googling mealy bugs and see if that could be it. On close inspection you would be able to make out the body of the insect. Otherwise the only white, powdery disease I am familiar with is powdery mildew but it usually isn't sticky.
