Sorry about my ignorance, but I found something that looks like an disembodied ear, like out of Blue Velvet. Looks very cool, but what the heck is it? Common? Thanks for any help.

It is very fleshy and very weird, and finally is starting to die after a couple of weeks. Grew after a very rainy week or so in summer. Might be an old root under it from a cut down Box Elder Maple. Shaded.
