Cut off ear dropped in my lawn?

Sorry about my ignorance, but I found something that looks like an disembodied ear, like out of Blue Velvet. Looks very cool, but what the heck is it? Common? Thanks for any help.

Have you poked it or something I'm betting its a type of fungi if you poke it and it's not attached to the ground then it's leaves but again fungi I just don't know what type, also.have u lived where u live long I'm betting there will b more, and did it come up after the rain that would help others to id it

It is very fleshy and very weird, and finally is starting to die after a couple of weeks. Grew after a very rainy week or so in summer. Might be an old root under it from a cut down Box Elder Maple. Shaded.
