Sphagnum (at least most species in the genus) is a moss of temperate to arctic bogs... but it (at least whatever species of it they've got in the greenhouses at Indiana University) will do fine in year-round warmth if kept pretty soggy and given plenty of light. The main problem I would expect in a terrarium is that you'd have a hard time giving it enough light. There are many other mosses that do well in lower light, though; there's a Dicranum from Florida that's sold for terrarium use, for instance.

Yoav, I have Sphagnum growing in my greenhouse.I have some flats growing very nicely in about 2 inches of water and and 1 in soil that gets watered once each day.I have some growing in my terrarium pond.It's not spreading like wild fire but that might be a good thing.On the ones in water, I have to drain off every other day.I may add an airstone for a fish tank.
