Ah, I though something sounded familiar about that circle drive!

I have to admit I don't know the macho fern so don't know just how big you're talking, but the two biggest ferns I have are the robust male fern (I think usually called Dryopteris x Complexa "Robust" though I gather this is technically somewhat botanically incorrect) and Dryopteris x australis (I think common name is Dixie Wood Fern). I love them both, though I think australis has the prettier fronds while Robust has more of a "oh yeah, a fern" appearance. The Robust grows from crowns and will spread by forming new crowns, while the australis spreads along the surface with a creeping... rootstock, I guess you'd call it. The Robust will get to three feet easily (upright/arching) while the australis will apparently get taller though I am in my first year with it so it hasn't yet (it is more erect).
