Tree Fern (Dicksonia antarctica)

Hi,

I am a complete novice when it comes to the garden. Not long ago I was bought a Tree Fern, which I have been very carefully looking after and have been rewarded with a new frond.

When I read the instructions that came with the fern it tells me to cut back the fronds at first frost, roll them into a ball and push into the top of the trunk for winter protection.

I am really nervous about cutting back the fronds. I am unsure exactly what this means - am I cutting off just the green leaf and rolling back the stem.

I would really appreciate some very 'basic' instructions on what I should do as I do not want to kill the fern.

Any advice would be appreciated!
