Indentifying mushrooms takes time and a good field guide. Start with a spore print, leave the mushroom cap sitting on a piece of white paper for a day and then check the colour of the resulting spore. Your mushroom could be one of the amanitas, which are very poisonous or it could be one of the tasty ones.

A good guide, with user friendly keys is the lone pine series book called Mushooms of Ontario. It includes most of the mushrooms found in eastern North America including Ohio.

Hey Nana4jc, those white balls are delicious! Just make sure their softball size. Too big and their no good. Too small and its a waste (if its really small it could be a different kind of mushroom in a egg! and could be poisonous.

bobcat, we need to be very careful about telling people that their mushrooms are 'good' to eat. Even though you may be quite an expert, you cannot ID any mushroom properly with a typical photograph or verbal description.
