Told I should move baby Ostrich Fern inside for winter?

I purchased an Ostrich Fern root (?) and was told I should move it inside for the first winter. I am not sure if I am supposed to keep it "alive" or let it go dormant.

So far, I planted it in a pot outside and it has grown to about 8" tall. I plan to plant in permanently outside next spring. My question is where should I keep it for the winter? I have an attic which gets very cold but does not freeze or a basement which stays in the high 60's.

Also should I water it over the winter?

Thank You for any and all help!!!
