Overwinter ferns in pots outdoors?

I purchased some maidenhair ferns and would like to plant them in concrete planters outdoors. I live in zone 6a. Will the ferns come back next spring if I leave them in the concrete planters for the winter? Or do I need to plant them in the ground? Thanks for any info.

If they are Adiantum pedatum or A. venustum, they will. All other maidenhair ferns are too tender.
