Ferns have reproductive spores under the frond (they can look like little bugs). When the spores are ripe, you can tap the frond against a piece of white paper and collect the "dust". Sow this on sterilized potting soil and keep a cover over it to grow them into ferns (but it is not an easy process). I find it easier to sprinkle them on a damp mossy area and let nature do the work.

Well, your fern is a Christmas fern, Polystichum acrostichoides, and the brown areas are sori. A sorus is a grouping of sporangia; sporangia produce spores, and spores produce new ferns.

Ferns don't produce seeds or flowers--these sori accomplish an equivalent function.
