I recently found many puffballs growing in my SE Pennsylvania lawn. They are about 1/2" to 2" in diameter and smoother than pear shaped puffballs and are also rounder (no small end like on the pear shaped PBs). They are smooth and light brown to dark brown in color. Inside they are dark, almost black and firm (even the young ones).

Any thoughts on what thee might be?
