Identify Mushroom?

Posted by junkmanme z5 N. NM, USA (My Page) on

I noticed this mushroom today. It is growing in the debris at the foot of an ancient "Silver Lace Vine" here in my yard.
Can it be identified by these 2 pictures?

Is it "safe" to eat?
If it is edible, is there some way to use it to grow additional mushrooms of this type?
OBVIOUSLY, I know NOTHING about mushrooms (except how to 'saute' them).
Just Curious,
Bruce (Junkmanme in New Mexico)

The images are not good enough for an ID. And in nearly every instance, you will not find someone who will tell you if a mushroom is edible or not over a forum like this. There are so many similar mushrooms, with very different consequences if eaten!

The rule for most of us is: never eat any mushroom found in the woods or in your lawn unless personally identified by someone who truly knows mushrooms. And will take that first bite!

RE: Identify Mushroom?

Hi, I stumbled across you again here after reading your comments on pressure cookers. this mushroom is growing out from under some rotten plywood next to my fence. It is a peziza badia. Some say edible, some not. It doesn't look tasty to me. It is the color of rubber bands. Mine are all skrinched together into little cups close to the plywood, but where there is no pressure pushing them together, they spread out to about the size of a coffee cup saucer. I am going to find you on the pressure cooker place again as I have some questions for you. Lorraine in Oregon
