Boston Ferns. How cold does it have to be to damage these? When should I bring them into the garage?

RE: what temp to bring inside?

I am in coastal Santa Barbara County, California and I have Boston Fern growing as a weed species in my back yard.
It grows in shade to full sun and is out all year long. The coldest it got last winter that i can recall is around
28 F but generally the lows average in the mid-30s in the coldest periods before dawn. The fern survives.
