Hi Colleen, how large is large? Staghorns are pretty tough in my experience, I have a largish staghorn, about 6 or 7 years old, that I move all over the place but it's not mounted, it's growing in an old wrought iron thing that I think was a swag lamp in it's former life, lol. If it were me I'd just unscrew it from the wall and screw it where I wanted it to grow, provided that I had such a place.
