Is copper wire bad for my staghorns?

I am wondering about copper wire being bad for my staghorn ferns.

Does the wire need to be removed? I can cut it away, since the ferns are now attached to the board and the moss.

If they are plastic coated, it is ok, otherwise it may have detrimental effects as it corrodes and dissolves.
