Honestly that looks more like a moss to me, but it could possibly be a filmy fern, family Hymenophyllaceae.

Another thanks, plant freak. I know nothing about moss identification. I don't even have a reference book. This is growing about 2 ft up the base of a tree. The length of the "frond" or spike being about 2 inches. It appeared to have algae growing on the surface of the largest examples. A filmy fern was one of my considerations. This was found growing in a unique area just outside the National Park. The area is about 1/2 square mile. Refered to as "Bird Park". Sort of a climax forest untouched by ~recent lava flows.
