Yellow Dock and mycelium

lythir

I noticed something unusual about the weedy yellow dock in my garden. It's a plant with a long tap root, which means it's hard to get out of the ground, but when I do, the root is entirely covered with mycelial strands, many of which break off in the soil when I pull it up. No other weed has shown that.

I have two questions:

1. Why is only the dock like that?

2. If the dock encourages mycelial growth, should I (cautiously) encourage the dock to increase the fungal mat in my soil?

Thanks bunches . . .
