Cutting Garden - Need suggestions

Hello - I have a little bed that runs between the garage wall and a walkway to the house, about 4' wide and maybe 20' long. it's got a pruned varigated privet, a silverado sage, a few russian sages, a cactus dug off the side of a west texas road, an autumn sage and a few other odds and ends. It's normally fine, because it was packed with trailing pink verbena which is evergreen here and covered with blooms the minute the sun comes out. But I neglected to thin the verbena and IT DIED! So I've decided to try using the area as a cutting garden this year and see how it goes. I'd like suggestions for smallish plants (height is not a problem, just ground space) that I can direct seed in zone 8. I'd prefer annuals. I've got loads of zinnia seeds, so I may just start there, but i'd like a nice variety of plants and colors. Also, does anyone know of a good source for heirloom cutting flower seeds?

Thanks,
