Supplies for bouquets

Does anyone have a good supplier for floral bouquet supplies such as the paper you wrap the bouquets with, the plastic sleeves and floral preserve. Also, how to display them at a market. Thank you!

Johnny's has a few supplies. You could also check with any wholesale florist suppliers in your area.

    Hi,

Below are a few places I found last year when I googled floral supplies. While I had some of them send me some samples, I don't think I ended up using any of them, so I can't comment on quality/customer service, etc.

Originally I had been looking for flower sleeves and buckets. I decided to forgo the sleeves (I have a hard time using plastic when I know it will be thrown away as soon as it gets home) and I improvised on buckets last year due to cost constraints.

    Hope this helps!

I have used A-roo and Happy Day for my sleeves...they have great selections and work with me on sizes/quantities. I use the large and extra large sizes primarily because the flowers and bunches are larger than the average bunch you'll find at the grocery store. I like clear and white and perforated with holes if available.

Any local floral supply store can probably provide comparable pricing on floral preservative and shipping the big buckets would be expensive. I usually buy 2-4 at a time when they're on sale.

I don't use paper because I prepare the flowers the night before and the paper would get soggy in the buckets overnight. I know there are sources for biodegradable sleeves, but the cost is prohibitive at the moment.

I get buckets from the local Safeway...the buckets their flowers come in and they throw away. These are 10" black buckets that work great for holding 3-5 bouquets at a time. I have a steel rack that was made to hold 3 rows of 4 buckets. It stands up to the wind and I can disply a lot of flowers in the space with the 10" buckets.

Work with a local deli/restaurant to get 5 gallon or square buckets-they usually throw them away too! I like the square ones for cooler buckets. The extra tall 5 gal. buckets work great for tall sunflowers and heavier flowers as well. I have a couple of places I work with and they call me when they have 5 or so. This way when I use buckets for bridal flowers, I'm not losing supplies if they don't return buckets I paid for!

    Good luck,
    Wendy

    Wendy,

Would you be able to post a photo of your steel rack that was made to hold 3 rows of 4 buckets? It sounds really neat!

Hi Hugh - and everyone - boy, glad Trish had posted how to do this on the Market forum...I've forgotten!

Here's flowers of our booth, one from 2005 and one from 2006. The steel rack's rings need to be tilted downwards a bit to better show off the flowers, but sometimes bouquets blow out of the buckets on the top row!
    Hope these help!

Ok -- trying again...the forum wouldn't accept it a second time.

The bucket rack has a hinge at the top so it folds "almost flat" and it comes out of the bottom stand. Its heavy and hasn't blown over yet!

    Ooh! Ahhh! Wendy, just beautiful!

More questions for you, if you don't mind.

1.) Are your buckets able to stand on their own, or do they need to be in the rack? You've given me the idea to ask my local supermarket about their buckets, but wondering if they need a "holder".

2.) Did you build your rack, or did you buy it? I've seen these at on-line sites, but wondered if they might be "overkill" for my small stand. But seeing yours has made me realize how great a display they make (although I'd say your flowers have a bit to do with that too, lol!)

Your flowers are gorgeous! Those sunflowers especially caught my eye, as well as those bunches of cosmos. Sigh. Making me anxious for market time again!

Have to add that I now laugh when I see the term "local floral supply store"! If I had a penny for every article I've seen in which that term is used, I'd be a rich woman, lol. I can't find any floral supply locally to save my life!

Oh, I'm sorry Wendy - one last question. What is the source for biodegradable sleeves you mentioned? I thought I had one, but when I pressed them on the issue they admitted to me that it was still in the works and that that item wasn't quite ready yet.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Dee - thanks!

Let's see: #1 - the buckets do stand on their own. I've found Safeway and other supermarkets that have floral depts. get their flowers in these 10" buckets and they throw them away! Check after Valentine's and Mother's Day!

#2 - I have a neighgor who is a skilled welder and he made this for me. But, I do like the commercial floral display units as well. But, they're not as easy to fold up and take up space in the van, so I haven't invested in one yet.

#3 - I'll have to see if I can find the source for the bio sleeves - I don't have it handy, but they were very expensive, so even though I really wanted to use them, I couldn't justify the cost.

Humm...suppliers...I did a quick search and found this:
Beacon Evergreen & Florist Supply. 808 Maple Ave. Hartford, CT 06114. 860-527-6421 ...maybe that will help.

And a link is below to a company I have used before and also visit in Portland, OR.

    Good luck!

Thank you so much for that info, Wendy. Good point on the fold-ability of the homemade racks. I never thought of that characteristic being useful when looking on-line. That may actually be a major consideration in buying a rack.

    Thanks!
    :)
