We double cropped our flowering kale. We planted plugs in the bulb crates after the early lily crops finished. This way we could get further use from the growing medium which is composted after. We did have slugs. Our bug guy told us to use Ecargo or Deadline. We picked most of them off when we saw them. I can handle most creepy, crawly; however, I do not like slugs.
The silver bullet for cabbage loopers is Tracer. The active ingredient of Tracer is spinosad, one of a new class of insecticides called naturalytes. According to a study by Michigan State University, thise insecticide is derived from the naturally occurring metabolites of the actinomycete fungus Saccharoployspora spinsoa. It is characterized as reduced-risk insecticides based on its low human toxicity and low impact on beneficial insects.
