Where to buy bulk daffs

Who do you buy your bulk daffs from. Do you have specific beds that you dedicate to them alone to let them perennialise or do you dig them at the time of harvest and replace each year? Lizalily how did you deal, this year, with preventing tulip fire? (sorry to get slightly off subject!) Thanks for any input. Kat

RE: Where to buy bulk daffs

I order from atleast 3 different sources to get all the ones I want. They are flowerbulb.net, colorblends and their sister company Daffodil Depot, and Van Engelen.I would recommend Daffodil Depot as the first stop,,best prices and selection.

I plant an area and then leave it be and plant another one next year. So this year I am harvesting from 5 different patches.
THe volunteers come on earliest so I Harvest mostly from them until the new patch kicks in. For me, many of hte daffodils have established themselves and are propagating merrily on their own. In fact, I only order daffs about aevery 2nd or 3rd year.

I did absolutely nothing different with my tulips this year and they remain disease free! EVen the ones that were terrible last year And I didn;t get around to pulling are coming up looking fine and should give me many smaller tulips to fill out bouquets with. IT's a mystery to me! However, I guess I will have to blame it on the weather last year as we had some freakish warm spells and this year has been a normally chilly spring for us.

Thanks, lizalily. Just for interest, how much land do you have under daffodil and tulip production? I would really love to be able to go to market this time next year with a good amount of early spring bulbs and flowers from the hoophouse (being built this year) and I'd love to get an idea of how much space to dedicate to bulbs, especially if I am leaving them in the ground. Delighted to hear about your tulips, heres to another disease free year. Thanks, Kat

I am a "small gardener" but not that small, since I do all the work myself excePt the tilling. I probably farden around an acre but some of it doubles as house landscaping and person l rose gardens. I had about 240 square feet in dahlias but that will about double this year. My daffodil row for this year is 4' wide by about 100 feet long. I plant the daffs at the spacing recommended for each variety. My tulip row is just slightly longer.
