Price going way up on BluePoint Zinnias

FYI, I got a letter a couple days ago from GeoSeed telling me this:

Benary has changed their seed form to Coated and Polished for the whole series of Zinnia Benary's Giant Dahlia BluePoint Series. Beginning May 1, 2009 their seed will only be available in this form.

The pricing is as follows for all colors including Lime:

100 seed - $3.25
1000 seed @ more per 1000 - $22.25

This is about 5X the price that GeoSeed charged for the non-coated and polished seed in their 2009 catalog. The letter advises that they still have some of the standard seed in stock available at the old price until inventory is depleted.

Kirk,
I received that too. I wonder if other suppliers had that change earlier, since I saw higher prices with them?

What are the benefits of coated and polished? Mine have grown quite well up until now!

That strain has become kind of a standard and the people at GeoSeed said there is not really a good substitute for it. I don't think anyone has any problems germinating zinnias so I suspect the biggest benefit is to Benary's bottom line.
