I have read where all the leaves that would be in the water must be stripped off to avoid aging problems with the boquet. What I am curious about is how come greenery added to the boquet wouldn't also cause the same problems? I can't imagine that all the greenery is above water or is it? I am sure to all you pros that is a dumb question but I still want to know. Maybe some of you don't add greenery to your boquets. I would like to know that too. Thanks! You guys are the best! SHIRLEY. you strip off the leaves that are below the water line on the greenery just like you do on the flowers. Even with ferns I strip off the greenery below the water line.

The reason is that any greenery that is below waterline will rot and cause an overgrowth of bacteria in the water. Bacteria then clog the stems, so the flowers and greenery can't take up water and wilt. The bouquet's vase life is considerably shortened.
