storing flowers in refrigerator

Hi all,
I sells flowers at our farmer's market only on Saturday. I would like to keep some of my high value flowers picked Sunday-Wednesday in the refrigerator to help save them for Saturday's market. I know the temperature is low enough to hold the flowers, but I was wondering whether the humidity levels would cause some of the flowers to lose moisture. Would misting the flowers in the refrigerator help? I would appreciate hearing suggestions re keeping flowers in the refrigerator from controlling humidity levels to saving space.

| Marcia, I am in exactly the same boat, since I used to have a Wednesday market that helped a lot, but not this year. I have a fridge that I am going to use very soon now and I plan to keep a pan of water in there with a big cloth wick to help humidify it. I'll have to be careful to check on vase life before I sell any of these, but I'm thinking it's bound be an improvement over just losing the flowers. Can you sell to any local florists during the week? I have one here who will buy some things from me. I will be hoping for a response from some of the more knowledgeable growers that check in here from time to time. ThinMan |
