Disbudding Dahlias

I know this is a goofy question, but if I don't ask, I won't know....
Is disbudding necessary for cut flower production?
I could see it if my primary objective was larger flowers - but isn't my goal to be MORE flowers?
Thanks!!

I often disbud the side buds so as to get a long enough stem to go into the vase and still display the flower. Buds do not open on Dahlias after picking.
