Am I crazy for planting sunflowers now?

I live in Tucson, known for its 300 days of sunshine a year. Well, I desperately wanted some sunflowers to line my back wall (which is a plain grey brick). I planted Queen Velvets and Vanilla Ice. Do you think I have a long enough growing season with our warmth and sun for them to grow? I literally just planted them a few days ago.

I would grow some pro-cut sunflowers, because their "to-bloom" time is only 60 days.

Last year I planted sunflowers in pots Aug 1(should have been the ground as they grew too fast) to use at an early October open house for decoration. In mid Sept. I had to move them into the shade for a few hours each day trying to slow them down. This year I marked my calendar for 3rd week of August to start them, so they won't be past their prime. I live in central MD, so expect AZ will get fast growth. Just add water!
