Crocosmia

| I tried one crocosmia this year and oh my gosh, I loved the blooms; however, it only lasted one day. I cut into water in the field and set aside in a cool area and the next morning it was a goner. I am confused as I know it is used for a market flower.
Is any special conditioning treatment required for crocosmia?
I have crocosmia 'Lucifer' and was wondering which other crocosmia varieties you have found useful in your bouquets?
Thanks,

Hello Teresa, I am also interested in the crocosmia. It seems that they should make a good cut flower but I have had trouble in their propagation also. Currently I have about a dozen Emily McKienseys in bloom but have not cut them. My Lucifers did not come back this year. I have tried the Emily Mckienseys before and they never broke dormacy. I got some in a trade and they came through the winter. Stil trying to figure them out also. - Jim |

| I condition them the same as my other flowers and never have any problems with that, so I guess it must be some weird weather or soil thing. |

I cut mine when only the bottom flowers are open and all the blooms open all the way up the stem, even the side shoots. How has your weather been? Cheryl |

| I agree with fundybay, only when the two bottom flowers are open. With crocosmia because you will get tons of flowers, if you can't cut them all let them go to seed and use the seed pods in bouquets, I have a florists that loves them. |

The crocusmia I have is suppose to be Emily Mckinsey but I have my doubts. Anyway the second day after cutting the flowers close into a tubular form not splayed out as when cut. any commments? |
