I just look them over good As I work with them. Bringing an occassional earwigin on the dahlias now but I have a room where I work on flowers in my garage and hope to get all ear wiggles out before taking them to sell. My flowers are all raised with ducks for bug control.

Do any of you experienced growers find that some customers will not buy field flowers because they think they'll have crawlies on the dinner table?

I have not really had troube with the ducks eating seedlings. I did have trouble with one bunch pulling up newly set iris but the next batch of ducks totally ignored them. I have had trouble with my grass garden as they have devoured the small grass starts before they could get established but for the most part they just eat bugs and weed seeds. We feed them in the evening so they never go to bed hungry. I think it is geese who will eat a lot of plants when they are small.

I started raising a few chickens this winter/spring, we are new to birds. After some research, I did find out that the best bird to have as far as bugs go is guinea hens. I keep dropping hints to my husband, lol. Maybe I'll order some babies next spring because you have to have several. The kids wanted ducks but we don't have a pond :(
