Thermopsis

I live in the hot Midwest and lupines do not do well here. Do any of you grow thermopsis for cuts? Any opinions appreciated.

Thanks,

Teresa

That's OK, Thinman. I am going to give the yellow baptisia a try instead. I planted it in the Spring and that should give me kind of the lupine look in yellow. I will let you know if it blooms next Spring and how it looks in bouquets. I love baptisia!

RE: Thermopsis

yes, it was a decent cut flower for me in my one trial spring 2009. Lasted about 5 days in a vase with floral food. I will do a more serious evalution in 2010 when I have more stems to work with and I will cut them earlier, when flower spike is 1/2 open. Like any of the legumes, it will drop lower florets first and any that have been pollinated.
