Succession planting

| I often read here about succession sowing zinnias, sunflowers, Amazon dianthus and gladioli.
I know it doesn't work well for all things. I tried succession planting lisianthus last year and and it seems like the later sown plants still bloom about the same time but are just smaller.
This year I had most of my rudbeckia hirta, feverfew and china asters come into bloom all at once. Has anyone tried succession planting these flowers?

| I've tried it with the Chinese asters, with very minimal success. The ones planted one month later still came in at about the same time. With my short season, they can't be planted any later than one month after the first group. If you can plant with a bigger gap in between, maybe it will work better. Haven't tried succession-planting the others. Jeanne |
