plants are too tall

I planted my first cutting garden. Came up great and then kept going. The tallest plants (zinnia & cosmos) were supposed to be 3'. Mine are over 7'. The smallest 1', those are about 3'. Blocks the view from my windows, and I can't reach some of them to cut them. Does anyone have an idea why they are gigantic?

Temporary inconvenience --- be happy you've probably had enough moisture this summer to promote good growth. After the past two years when it was so dry here, I'm happy to have some taller flowers this year. Could be that along with the moisture, you were slightly generous with the fertilizer when planting - or - you have some nice rich soil! A slightly shady spot might also encourage some stretched out plants.

We had abnormally cloudy cool days that led to tall growth on many plants. Did you have an early summer like this?
