You might slowly and carefully try to brush the pollen off the petals with a soft small paint brush.

Here at the farm -- I tell my customers to cut the pollen off the flower before they cut it. The pollen does stain horribly. Sometimes you can remove it from clothes by using masking tape. Don't brush it off as it stains even more.

Some people have commented to me that the flowers that have the pollen cut out of them last longer. I haven't seen any noticeable differences.

I haven't been able to get it off the petals either, goinnorth. To get it off clothes, take a chenille pipe cleaner and gently brush. I've also heard that if you put the clothing item in the sun the stain will disappear.

If you watch a lily open, the anthers on the stamens have not developed pollen when the lily first opens. A day or two after it opens is when the pollen develops. I pinch the anthers off before the pollen develops - no fuss, no muss.

Pudge is right. Pinching off the anthers does the trick, but in our recent hot, humid weather, I couldn't keep up. The lilies in bud one day were already open and shedding by the next morning. I've had some success using Scotch tape if only a little pollen has stained. Tear off a piece of tape, and blot once to pick up, not brush, the pollen. If necessary, continue, with fresh tape. (This same technique works if you get pollen on clothing, if you blot before brushing.)

A good friend who is a floral designer told me to use a folded white pipe cleaner on dry flowers. It works - a mini dry brush! Even when the pollen has stained them when they open on my in the cooler.

I actually leave them on for customers and show them how to use their fingers to gently pull them off and leave the anthers. They can use a tissue if they don't want to stain their fingers. For clothes, shout does work! At least on my work clothes... :)
