Conditioning of Rudbeckia or ??

Hello All,

While returning to the house today along our gravel drive, I noticed many newly blooming daisy like yellow flowers blooming. They look like rudbeckia but have a yellow eye. I cut several for today's vase and all of them have wilted within a few hourse.

Earlier this year I picked wild rudbeckia on our farm and it lasted quite a long time in a vase.

I am wondering if what I picked was not rudbeckia and if now, would anyone know what it is and how to condition it so that it does not immediately wilt?

Without a picture it's hard to say if it's a Rudbeckia or not. However many daisy-like flowers need to be somewhat mature before picking and I find this is certainly the case for any of the Rudbeckia's. I like to test for stem stiffness where the stem meets the flower. If it still feels soft, it's not going to last long in the vase. Heliopsis is much like this, too.
