Hi -- does anyone here get the Growing for Market publication? Doesn't it list USDA official prices for certain crops? Or does someone here know how to easily access a navigable list on the USDA website? I'm wanting to know the USDA wholesale prices for:

garlic
sunflower stems
asiatic (not oriental) lily stems
onions
carrots
lettuce

Kristin,

You can go to the growingformarket.com website, click on their links, scroll down, and you'll find the USDA prices links. One is for vegies-herbs, the other for flowers. THEN you'll have to learn the lingo. Sometimes it's easy, other times you'll have to do some guesswork.

"Bu", or "BU", no quotes on either, is Bunch. NL is The Netherlands, I believe. I'm not sure how everything is labeled (in shorthand, of course) on the vegies site, but flowers are fairly easy. Lilies will be listed as Lilies first, then, depending on the market, w/ sub categories for Asiatic, Oriental, and the others. Some of them even list price per stem/bu for Named Varieties.

Good luck!

Susi

The prices are on the Agricultural Marketing Service website.
When you get to this link, select the commodity you're interested in - flowers and vegetables are in different databases. The prices are regional, too, so you want to look for the city closest to you.

Here is a link that might be useful: Market News
