I planted some of the green huge okrazilla this year thinking I was planting the reddsh kind instead. Now I have these huge plants with the green okra on them. How do you harvest and sell and what do these bring at a farmmer's market? How do you market this? by the stem? bunch? Has anyone tried to dye these like sunflowers so they look more like fall instead of the green?
Thanks , any suggestions or ideas as what to do with them would be appreciated.
Rita, Hope this is not too late. I've seen dried stalks with okra pods for sale in fall to use with dried grass seedheads like Pampas grass. The okra usually is dark and light brown striped...not sure what variety. I've also seen the dried okra pods used in wreaths.
I've not seen the fresh pods for sale but I'd buy it to add to an big arrangement of perhaps striped Canna or burgundy Ti leaves. I'd prefer the undyed, though. Good luck. josh
Thankyou for answering and yes it's to late for most of my crop. I decided to cut them off and plow them out. They were taking up too much space for the amount of money I was making on them. I still have one section left and I will try drying like you said. Thankyou for the info.
