Underplanting/interplanting tulips with glads

In an effort to maximize my bed space, I wondered if planting tulips on top of and in between my glads would work. I live in an area where glads don't have to be lifted. I have three "seasons" of tulips, meaning that I have some that will be early, some mid-season and some late.

Do you think the early tulips would do well planted with the glads? I won't need to lift the glads until I have to divide them, so I think this would work really well as long as everyone gets fed properly. Ideas?
