| My lilies of the valley have nice red berries on them. Two questions. Do LOV do well in bouquets,(both in flower and berry stage) and if I cut them will it affect the bulb in terms of growth next year?
Thanks!
:)

Dee, I have cut LOV every spring for bouquets. I have not cut berries, though. On the very crowded patch, the blossoms were so small I only saw very few berries in fall. I also use leaves especially in late summer when we are low on greenery. They don't seem to be bothered one way or or the other. LOV grows very big when thinned out. So I have dug out and given away a lot of them. I have also added manure to the patch. I'll see next year how much better they'll perform.

Thanks for your help! I was hestitant to cut anything. I have had SUCH a difficult time getting my LOV established (I know, I know - most people think they're invasive, and I can't even get any going, lol!) so I didn't want to cut what little I had if it was going to negatively affect the plants. I think next year will finally be the year these babies get going. In the meantime, perhaps I will cut a stem or two of berries to see how they do in the vase. Thanks! :) Dee

Dee, would you like more LOV? I can thin out more. Those pips are not cheap.

pitimpinai, I would love a bit more - do you mean you would mail it to me? If it's not too much work, I'd really appreciate it. But I know how difficult it can be to dig this up (from other gardens, unfortunately, not my own, lol!) so if you can't get to it that's fine. I'll e-mail you. Thanks so much! :) Dee
