What sort of flower is this?

| I just bought a small bouquet of these wonderful flowers at a grocery store. The flowers are 5-g inches wide. Does anyone know what they are and where I could get some seeds or plants? The label just said "Daisy, product of Columbia." Thanks!

| They are Gerbera daisies. I love them. They're an annual in my zone 6 garden. You can buy both the seeds and plants at any garden center. I've seen the plants at a local supermarket, too. They don't like hot, humid weather and will sometimes stop blooming during hot weather, but as soon as it cools down they'll be back blooming again. I plant them in a deck box and keep them fertilized and watered well. |

| Actually, they're not Gerbera daisies. They are chrysanthemums which are referred to as Daisy Pomps by the grower in South America. These mums are imported into the US duty free from the large grower, Esmarelda. Many bouquets sold in grocery stores throughout the states contain this type of mum because the cost of this flower is very low. They also have a long vase life. |
