Just a couple so far, more on the way....
One of my favorites: Seattle.

Ryan C- lovely deep purple and white, about 3-4 inches diameter.

And Robert Walker a tiny 2 inch FD in purple and lavender, 3 ft tall.

Nice to see your dahlias, Poochella. I do like that Seattle.

That Seattle is real pretty, hint hint LOL

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Thank you guys. Willow I have 3 seattles this year. It was a real bugger to divide ( couldn't) last year, but if I'll put you down for a tuber if I get one, or a little clump if I can't divide them. Remind me!

A couple more have opened:

Nicole C, short small cactus in the palest orange. Like a dark Dreamcicle if you remember those icecream delights.

Fatima- much hotter pink than last year, gets late afternoon shade. A small 2 inch bloom but it packs a punch for the butterflies passing by..

Sandia Shomei 3-4 inch waterlily on a 3 ft bush.

The first Taratahi Lilac- I must say I'm disappointed after seeing so many perfect blooms of this at shows. Maybe it will improve or open further?

I believe this is Robinhood, possibly Jomanda but I think not because of the pink. Gee, I didn't keep very good track of this one's name! I have another one to compare to, that is named Robinhood, not blooming quite yet.

More opening daily....

Karma Ventura opened- bright yellow, fluffy, a bit of an open center though. 5-6 inches across, 3.5 ft tall.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA -late july

oopsie, want to see Karma Ventura again? Don't know how that happened.

Sandia Shomei 3 ft WL is more solid lavender when mature and quite lovely.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Poochella, they are all so pretty. My Robin Hood has lightened up after it opened up and got a bit more sun. I'm glad to know it really is RH.

I have been waiting for you to post pics-beautiful!

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Hi Putzer, have a few more starting. They seem really late this year. That's a beautiful Robinhood Willow!

Here's Alpen X fully mature

Hawaii in a pot, beating its garden planted Hawaiis by far

Little orchid KKKKatie is here!

Rosemary Webb- a lovely pastel pink and cream. Lots of blooms, good stems

Valley Porcupine has unique rolled/quilled petals in tones of pink/white. Not quite fully open here. It's a small 3-4 inch bloom.

Hee Haugh is starting to show herself: pastel orange/yellow and about half open here

Honka is back, but against an unsightly background. I won't do that again to this cheerful little fellow!

Seattle from a more shaded location. It is normally a bright yellow with a thin band of peach separating white petal tips. But in shade, or as an old bloom the peach really takes over.

Mary's Jomanda just starting to open- a deep pink I really wanted to have. Too bad about the open center seen on all buds so far. Hope that changes.

And just one more of lovely, lovely Karma Ventura closing up for the evening. These two buds are about half open but they look like bright yellow peonies as they prepared for the chilly night. Great stems and plenty of blooms. I highly recommend this one if you like yellows. Available from Van Bourgondien. There are a few more karma dahlias to follow as they open.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

A few more to show:
Natal, 3 ft red pom

Blackberry Ripple half open and getting prettier everyday!

More mature Robinhood, still not as bright as Willow's darn it! LOL

More mature Taratahi Lilac. I finally cut it after it had been on the plant over a week and it looks better still, in a vase! More lavender and cactus ends curl upward now, but have no photo of that. So maybe there's hope for it afterall.

This is supposed to be STolze Von Berlin- a pink ball; but it's not. It's lavender, quite full of 3 inch blossoms on a 3 ft bush. Anyone recognize it?

There is no way to capture the rich purple of Camano Phantom but I'll try with the closest I could get was on the bud. It has since gone on to be a wonderful full bloom about 6 inches across and deep. A camera will make it look reddish.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Camano Phantom is a sight to behold.. I'm liking that one! be great in a vase withe some of your pinks

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

More opening daily:
Pale pastel pink and white waterlily returned from the capable hands of Pitimpanai after I lost mine! Thanks Nai!

Bracken Ballerina

Bright red Taratahi Ruby. Eyepopping color!

Riverdance an anemone also in rich red.

Karma Sangria fully open and much prettier

Mary's Jomanda- lovely deep pink ball, opened more fully. I love this flower. Really great stems and lasts a long while when cut.

Edinburgh back again this year.

There are a few more coming, I'm trying to wait for them to open for photos, but I am impatient at this late date LOL.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Ala Mode is new this year from Lizalily and much appreciated. Great Color, lots of blooms.

Barbarry Ball looks more pink here but it's really orange and a huge plant nearing 6 ft tall. Lots of side branches too.

Golden Sceptor thanks to Willow! I love this flower- lots of them, good stems, great color.

I went for a lot of orange ball types this year for some reason. Not disappointed either. Hy Lustre was a good addition. Medium orange with red underpetals.

Here's a bright little orchid Juul's AllStar. In deep pink and yellow, tons of flowers.

Karma Fuschiana- and so bright fuschia! Great stems, centers tend to blow open so I cut them early.

Here was a real mystery: It was supposed to be Northwest Cosmos a lavender and hot pink single, if I recall correctly. But here's what bloomed and I didn't buy it, trade it, or ask for it.
Pooh is the name, quite cheerful colors is the game.

Here's a new waterlily for me: Moray Susan with bug bites- grrrrr. It was supposed to be 5 ft tall so it went in the back row. By now, it's likely about 3 ft tall but took a long time to get there. The color is very unique- not a bright red, not pink, kind of a blend of the two on velvety petals.

Santa Claus is coming to town! Bright red and white with kind of twisted petals. Very cheery!

Here's another in the orange-ish/pink line new this year:
Summit Festival. It reminds me of Seattle only smaller in that it has white tips separated from the pinky-orange main petal by a band of pink. It's another unique color that's hard to describe.

Taratahi Lilac posted very early on, got so much better! It is really a great flower- good stems, lovely color and shape. Here, from the side.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Okay, I have been looking at these for a couple days, LOL. All that I can say....is that they are all pretty. You must have a huge garden to have soooo many.

Absolutely gorgeous!

Hey Poochella:
Great shots.....Seattle was one of the first dahlias I grew.
Are you a member of any dahlia societies? I belong to Mid Island, Long Island and Connecticut. We're(Mid Island)
hosting the ADS National Show in 2 weeks at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay where we have a very large display garden.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

Thank you both. I have several dahlia beds and am plotting and scheming to get rid of perennials I could care less about to make more room for dahlias, dahlias, dahlias LOL! This is really a bad hobby!

Yes, dahlia boy I belong to Puget Sound Dahlia Association but I am the worst member having gone to only a couple meetings. Always make it to their tuber sales though!

I have been to the Mid Island website many times and find it very useful. Good luck to you and your group as you host the big National Show. It is a wonder to behold all those blooms in one place. I went to the one in Seattle two years ago and was just agog for days. Am sure you will put on an equally splendid event for the east coast visitors.

RE: They're Starting Here in WA

I'm getting irritated at those photobucket icons showing up instead of a photo. Maybe I've done some editing that caused it. My apologies.

A few more new ones that I like.
Skipley Spot of Gold. Lavender with each petal tipped in a spot of gold! Just starting out seen here:

Fully open here:

Another Skipley creation- SKipley Spot which is a rich vibrant red with each petal dabbed in white.

Sea Oro is a rich orangey yellow ID, Large flower on sturdy stems

Brandon James- a tiny 2 inch bloom in apricot/yellow with white tips. Reminds me of a rounded tiny Seattle dahlia in color.

Alpen X- Golden pink 4 inch blooms on 3 ft plant, great stems. It tends to fade if not cut early enough, but is beautiful as a cut flower.

Little bitty "Buffie G" a small 2 inch bloom in pale pink and yellow blended on a 3 ft plant. Lots of blooms that arrive late in the season, at least here.

Cafe Au Lait- large B size ID in ivory with pink undertones. 3.5 ft plant and about one inch stems LOL!

Closeer up on Cafe Au Lait

Clearview David, stunning lavender/white with each petal outlined in a deeper lavender. Nice!

CLoser to Clearview David. This is among my newest favorites of the year.

Crazy Legs! A stellar form and nice orange with red reverse petals; much smaller at 3 inches across than I anticipated.

Embrace- pale orange and yellow. Mine is squished into a crowded space but still doing okay.

Similar color on Hamilton Lillian. Fewer blooms on this one but well worth the wait.

Hillier Tanunda- too bad it's blurry as it is a beautiful little formal decorative. Maybe 4 inches across. The bush got shaded early by giant neighbor dahlias and was slow to take off. Now growing and I hope to see a few more blooms in the next month.

Jessie G is really impossible to capture accurately. Deep purple on a wonderful ball. Mine is over 6 ft, bloom tops at 7 ft. Very tough to support in a wind or rain!

Juul's All Star cute little orchid- mine is Purple and yellow, tons of blooms at any time and an equal number of bees buzzing to it.

That's enough for one night, but there are more.
