OOOH! Bliss! Bliss is going to be my first bud to open- maybe this week. I can finally see pink on the little bud petals.
Willo are you sure that is Goodwill 90? It looks so differently shaped from mine, and a stronger pink/red too. I had 3 plants of it last year and all pretty much looked like this. Could be soil differences but the petal shape has me thrown.

Poochella,
It's the one that you sent me, perhaps it's the soil and alittle bit of a change due to the camera maybe.

I am positive it is Goodwill, it is interesting what a few thousand miles will make! That bloom has been opened about 5 days but the petals are certainly wider. Hmmmmmmmmmm!

I have it planted up next to the garage and it only gets about 5 hours of sun per day. Would that make a difference?

Interesting indeed. Nutrient difference, soil difference or sun?- I don't know. It'll be interesting to see if it changes on future blooms.

I promised a KKK katie to one other person but I am sure I will have one to trade with you.
Joe K was orginated in 1975 by Art Kieffer. It is a minature FD. Art is a member of my local dahlia society and has been developing minatures for around 40 years. He is quite a spunky old guy. My plant is one of his cuttings that I bought at our auction. He sat next to me and promised me it would grow to be a beauty. He was right LOL. I also bought another of his cuttings , Annie B but it is alittle behind as my neighbors dog decided to dig it up. It survived so we will see.

Okay Willow. First bloom of Goodwill 90 is now open and follows:

And compare it to your robust NE soil rich colors! I'd like a hot tip on your fertilizer brand!

RE: A few more dahlia's

That's really very intersting, Poochella. mine is not in any way purple or is it the camera that makes it look so purple?

You are going to laugh but all I do is add regulate garden fertilizer,10-10-10 to the soil in the spring right after the tiller goes though. Then a week before I plant, I throw some compost from the village compost pile ( mostly composted ground leaves) till again and then plant. Usually thats all they get, sometimes I give them a shot of tomato fertizer though the hose and sometimes not.

This year, 90 was growing in front of my clematis and clems need a lot of fertilizer. The clems get tomato fertilizer, alfafa pellets, and this year some Super Thrive. So I'm sure 90 got a taste of this concoction as its about 12" in front of the clems. 90 grew to about 5 1/2 feet tall, is that about the right height?

Most property in this county have zillons of rock and stones in there soil but my yard is a bit different, as I have very few. It seems that the last 3 past owner of this dwelling had an above the ground swimming pool, and not one of them put it in the same place. End result, plenty of sand! Each owner amended the previous location and planted grass, and then came me. I, in turn, tilled the whole place up and planted gardens of veggies and flowers. At this point, you could throw an old boot out there and it would take hold. LOL!

My DH is a bit of an elf, ears and all, so maybe it's elf voodoo!

So if you can figure out this system......

Here take a look

The veggie garden, pool site 3, all sand when I bought..

Oh my, snip snip here, snip snip there and a couple of tra la las. Those delphinium and lilies wouldn't last long in my proximity! Marvelous yard there Willow! How nice it was of the former owners to leave you all that well draining sand.

Well, maybe I'll try alfalfa pellets. We got two new goats who are accustomed to them, so that's what we get for feed now and they can learn to share with my garden LOL. It might be the early morning light, or the camera showing lavenderish color. It really is a pink, but nothing, NOTHING like your intense color.

I had 3 plants of Goodwill 90 last year, two were 4 feet and one reached 5 feet tall.

Here is another offering of Goodwill 90 twins from August: I think it was the camera being set on INDOOR lighting for the first two weeks I had it! Cannot believe they let blondes have sophisticated electronics without a license.

RE: A few more dahlia's

Poochella,
I have 3 more buds on Goodwin 90 so when they blossom, I'll get another shot of them and post it. Then we can compare again.

I also got a new camera and I think the saying goes for brunettes or better yet the on coming of grey as well as blondes!!!lol

Your photo and and blooms are just magnificent! My dahlia's are doing their thing now that we had some rain. Better late then never! Rumor has it that frost is on it's way in two weeks, UCK!!!! Hope it holds back a little longer than that otherwise I will have to do the sheet shuffle.
