Hockley Maroon- great plant with lots of smaller red flowers.
Puget Sparkle- really nice cutflower in a bright medium red. This plant is massive- wide as it is tall and could be a two staker, or three by September.
Salsa Picante about half open.
Sea Oro- big and very tall. Great golden orange color.
Silver Years waterlily, very palest pink.
Tiny Treasure a cute little white pompon.

| Wow. Salsa Picante, Sea Oro and Peaches and Cream would look great in a vase together. Very nice Dahlias. I love them all. |

| I bought a Peaches n cream tuber from the kitsap dahlia society but that was the one plant that never came up. I sure was bummed and seeing how beautiful yous is I think I will have to try it again next year. Beautiful pictures! |
| Thank you mipeony- that Salsa Picante is something else. I hate it when they don't come up, lila! But it happens. Here was the other Peaches N Cream- a much different appearance, although it is the same variety from the same vendor. This one is about 5 ft tall, the other was short at <2ft. Couple more open now: Chanel Tatiana a delicate 3 inch pastel with lots of stems. Lavid a lovely BB size lavender. Lots of flowers in a great color. Big fluffy white one Yuukyu an ID on great stems in pure white. And front, not open by any means, but that doesn't stop me! I don't know where Park Record is found in public, but I adore these colors and plant. It is beyond vibrant. Here's my new Hot Pink favorite for this year- a bit more open: Pretty In Pink- consistent good blooms in great color! I could live with about 10 plants of this one! Hy Lustre another newer orange favorite: besides the excellent form, the colors are rich and wonderful. Tall plant for me 2 yrs runnning- I plan on 5 ft. Here's a nice unnamed flower in pinky lav/white. it's about 5-6 inches across and very nice, 3 ft ht. Any guesses?

| Once again, I want to thank you for posting some gorgeous photos of some gorgeous flowers. My favorites in this group are Silver Years, Lavid, and Yuukyu. I'd love to see some garden shots of your place. The backgrounds in your pictures look amazing: all flowers, buds, or lush greenery. Keep up the good work! Annabeth |
| I hope I can keep it up. Thank you for your kind comments, Anna. We live in 'lush greenery' year round. Mother Nature does most of the work there. Some others:
Hy Lobster is a new favorite bright red, spidery cactus, semi-cactus, or incurved cactus depending on where you search online. Ruskin Marigold- this one just glows orange from afar. Not at all what the camera captures. Very nice. Tiny little Crossfield Ebony a deep red pompon. This one got hidden by a towering neighbor; you know, one that is '3 ft tall,' but turns out 5 ft tall? Crossfield has plenty of blooms in a deep dark color. I will grow it again in the confirmed very short dahlias patch even though it's a good 3 ft tall.
Castle Drive is going crazy- a lovely FD in pink with yellow about 6 inches across Downham Royal- get it! It's a beautifully formed and rich colored deep purple despite its red appearance here. Great flower. Another nice dahlia in a unique color: French Doll available at Swan Island. Dusky pink and yellow, lots of blooms that keep on coming as promised. It's a smaller bloom of 3-4 inches but very worthwhile.
Brookside Cheri is a nice little pink cactus with lots of flowers. Camano Thunder- it is a stunning bright purple that I just can't grow here. Year one it did very well, the color is amazing, but since then it's gone downhill and produced fewer and fewer blooms. Au revoir. CLearview Irene is a beautiful rich yellow SC in medium 6 inch size. Great plant. Golden Egg is a rich egg-yolk gold in demure little 3 inch waterlilies blooming on very upright stems. Very nice. They're like little golden UFO's blooming upright in your garden. Karma Prospero- medium pink well-formed flower on stout stems. It has the benefits of not needing diligent support and distinct pink lines down each petal. A very nice lt. pink bloom. Maltby Pearl- This has been a disappointing plant but a decent FD flower sized on an ill-growing plant. I won't grow this again. I'm growing this one again and I don't know the name! Haunting purple ball that wasn't what it was labelled by the grower. I'm not complaining. |
| WOW poochella...as always, amazing dahlias. I was wondering if you grown any of laciated variety with the split petals. There a few at Connells that I have to get my hands on for next year. Just wanted to know if you have any of your own pics of this type, especially one called Xenon an Jax offered at Connells? |
| More nice ones Ms. Pooch. Somehow you have taken a better photo of Downham Royal than me - sans the color.LOL |
| Al, it's all because I found that 'flower' button on the camera again! I was ready to drop the camera in the bucket instead of flowers last year LOL. Downham Royal is in contention for my favorite new dahlia of 07, thanks to you. But Barbarossa is a wonderful addition as well, really a beautiful red as you said. Here is Barbarossa I'll start a new thread with a few more. |
| Linht, I have only a few laciniated dahlias; two unnamed in white/lavender, and another in hotpink/white and this: Mel's Yellow Delight, unfortunately either with rain spots or bug bites. Like the looks of Xenon though!
| Thanks for posting Mel's Yellow Delight. Even with bugs and rain it's still pretty. Since it's Sept now, our frost will come any day in MN so my blooming season's pretty much done. I CANNOT wait to grow my first laciniated dahlias next may!! |
| AAAAHHHHH there they are. Poochella you have outdone yourself this year. How can you say its been rainy and unproductive? They are all just beautiful and breathtaking. How much garden space do you devote to dahlias? |
| Too much space for one gardener armed with a hose, a pruning shears and a shovel, Alyrics. I have several beds devoted to dahlias; can't really say the total sq. footage, but it's small, unless you're the one watering it. And I am working on a new bed, will rip perennials and rework that bed for dahlias as well in 08. I may really do something radical like grow vegetables again too. What a rebel. Here are a few more in bloom: Mel's Yellow Delight is even more delightful without bug bites and rain spots. This one has rock solid stems for cutting. Karma Naomi- late to bloom here, but a rich deep maroon red. Ooh and Ahh. Dry early version and a day later, wet version. Blue Bell, a dark lavender with darker purple reverse. Nice enough pre-packaged tuber/flower that reminds me of Lauren Michelle. One of my all time favorites, Cherrio- such a fantastic color of bright fuschia with those little white tips. I never get tired of this small 4-6 inch flower. Crazy Legs is a dramatic little 3-4 incher in red-rust with pale gold front petals. Mine are always tall 5 ft at least. An origination in a wonderful muted brick red from a friend in Oregon "Berry Bounty" Bea Paradise from Al! This is a bad photo- it is a wonderful white with lavender highlights, about 4-5 inches across here and 4 ft tall. It has been a weird year for the dahlia Seattle- again across the country, and perhaps beyond. It was one of my earliest and favorite dahlias in years past- this year I've seen about 6 blooms, and here are 3 of them: nearly all yellow, normal, and orangey yellow. That's all for now. |
| That's it. I am going to move to W. Virginia. |
| W. Washington! |
