Back in Action: it's Blackberry Ripple

I have this in a new sunnier spot this year- hopefully will be kicking out more blooms than last year. Another one that varies from bloom to bloom.

WooHoo, this is one you traded with me. Can't wait to see it at MY house.
Nice photo, thanks for sharing.

You are on the list- second in line, dear Willow.

LOL, Aren't we all crazy begging each other for tubers!

Poochella: How large should the flowers be?. Mine are finally blooming, and I'm a bit disappointed. They're not very big. I'm going to dose them with a fertilizer/systemic insecticide.

Hi Granny,
One source online says 4-6 inches across. The one in the photo was the first born LOL and was easily 6". I found I have two plants of this: one is 4.5 ft tall and the evil Mini Me version towers at about 18 inches- both planted within days of each other. What a weird year.

Blackberry Ripple-evil Mini Me version??

Small and short-but pretty. This one was traded from Poochella. Could it be that we have a new strain?? The plant is about 2 feet tall and the flowers 3" across.

It's still pretty. I think we have stumpy growing conditions on the shorties- not enough fert/sun. My short one is about to bloom, or perhaps is already. I'll measure a blossom just for you.

This has been such a weird year. The Blackberry Ripple tuber you sent me didn't do anything. But Edinburgh - all I can say is WOW!!! The first bloom was the size of my head! I have Camano Choice blooming next to Great Blue Lobelia (lobelia siphilitica) what a color combo, a knock-out! Impression Fantastico was blooming beautifully and then all of a sudden seemed to die back? I don't understand what is going on this year, I hope it doesn't affect the tubers.

Hi Mvespa- good to see you but bad to hear about BBRipple, sorry. I was thinking of going to go to the 'Five Favorites' thread to add Edinburgh. Such a sturdy plant and never ending blooms. My flowers are at best 4 inches though. You must have some dynamite nutrients going.

Did Impression Fantastico die? or just take a breather?

RE: Back in Action: it's Blackberry Ripple

You know what, I got the wrong name, not Edinburg. I have to go back and check the marker now. It is a huge dinnerplate with pink tipped blooms w/the centers a pale yellow.
How can I tell if Fantastico died? I really don't think it is taking a breather since all the foliage and stems have died back too.

RE: Back in Action: it's Blackberry Ripple

It sounds pretty much a goner if the foliage and stems are gone. I had to cut down a stem rotted plant, cut it all the way to the tuber and it is sprouted again and a lofty 4 inches tall LOL- a real towering mammoth. Might be worth a try on Impress. Fant. It can't get much worse off, and perhaps you can save some tubers off the plant for next year.
