Brookside Cheri

Seduction

Nescio

Painted Desert

Tahiti Sunrise, just opening.

Urchin- it is really much darker and richer maroon than this photo. A great color and frilly little number!

Coral Frills- thanks Christine R! I love this one.

Mary Jo- early to bloom and in great numbers.

El Dorado- just opened too.

Willo Borealis, cute little lavender pompon.

Onesta, a nice little waterlily

Park Record: great color, lots of flowers.

Not new but one of my favorite reds: Taratahi Ruby.

Just beautiful! I love them all but especially the Pretty in Pink, Coral Frills, Onesta, and Taratahi Ruby. Coral Frills almost reminds me of a Peony and Pretty in Pink has this neat little swirly look to it.
I'm glad to see you posting and I'm glad that this forum is starting to get more active. I planted my tubers REALLY late so my plants are just babies themselves...no sign of them trying to make their own yet.

RE: New dahlias in bloom

Thanks Annabeth. We've had a cooler summer than usual, but things just BOOMED in the last week or so. Dahlia growth never fails to amaze me.
Here is Chimacum Kathleen, a waterlily in peachy pink and yellow, with some others.

And Castle Drive a very nice FD of med size. So glad to see it this year: last year it was planted in mid June and the first buds frosted in late October- no real flower to view.

Clearview Irene- bright pure yellow, med.large semi-cactus. Plentiful and very good stems.

French Doll- very unique color: dusky yellow, yellow dusted in pink? The flowers are fairly small- ~3 inches across so far, but plentiful at any given time.

Nanna's Kiss, I think. It is nothing like the dahlia from Connell's online catalog from whence it came. Nice flower though, quite vivid medium pink and yellow, not the paler version pictured online. Perhaps a mis-ID? I have another plant of it coming along and will be able to compare blooms.

Robinhood- much bolder in color than last year.

Sweet Lorraine: one I used to have and managed to kill off with early season rot. Nice cutflower: starts out white/lav then ages to pure lavender.

One of the oldest cultivars I've grown: Chimacum Topaz, from the side. I think the first flower of the season is the best, as JRoot says, and I believe this may be the best 'first of the season' champ from my garden yet. Really a good bloomer and tubermaker.

I got a mystery traded dahlia named "Erika" but can't find it on the Big List or anywhere online. It's not Mingus Erica, nor Deerwood Erika. It starts out with a huge bud the size of a small orange

Moves on to a huge bud unfurling dusky pink petals

Then opens more and petals begin to unfurl: still bright dusky pink and gorgeous :)]

Bigger still....

A little more open and petals look straight in the a.m.

But by night, they begin to scoop up and the flower begins to fill out completely.

Almost open: still many petals on the still-big bud to open. I wish I had a name. It's an A size 8 inches across.

And a couple more favorites:
Pam Howden a wonderful bold waterlily in orangey/yellow with lavender underpetals.

And Jax Char which is a neon rich purple I can't get on camera. It glows in early the morning, the sunny daytime, and in the evening: a new favorite. Another one LOL.

Great variety! Chimacum Topaz is gorgeous. I thought it was suppose to be a size B but it looks enormous in the pic.

Thanks Linth,
Chimacum Topaz is one of the most reliable dahlias I've ever grown. Yes, this first flower was stretching the boundaries of B size; most average 6 inches across.

Pooch - I gotta say your photos are better this year, are you caving in to my peer pressure.LOL
I vote in every election - so I can make the tough decisions - Seduction is the winner.
Nice collection ma'am.

Seduction is not the winner here by a long shot. You are just smitten by the lavender/white combo! It's pretty enough, but not my favorite.

A few more
Tiny Treasure, a tall white pompon, maybe an inch across.

Pearsons Michelle- nice little orange pompon, lots of flowers.

Another pom! It's the year of the pompon here.
Noreen

Pride of Place- deepest dark purple

Waterlily Silver Years- very pale, pale pink and white.

Tahiti Sunrise more fully open. Vivid colors.

Wildwood Marie- good old reliable waterlily

Rosemary Webb- the closest to a peony look alike that I've ever seen.

Ryan C- dark purple with white tips, a very nice bloom.

Hy Mallow- really nice purple ball, sort of medium purple.

Barbarry Fusillier- muted magenta, more pink than purple but a nice ball. This plant was diseased from day one, unfortunately.

One more: Beulah Ruth- bright red in a small miniball, I think.

Lauren Michelle, not new to me, but a favorite purple.

Beautiful, beautiful! Your photos are as good or better than a lot of online catalog photos! What a fantastic garden you must have! I love Castle Drive and Robin Hood. Does Castle Drive remind you of Hillcrest Kismet? Just curious, how many dahlia plants do you grow? It seems your arsenal is tremendous--and lovely.

Thanks Annabeth. It is a labor of love for sure. I do not know how many plants I have, I'm too tired to count. Between 325 and 350, I would guess. There have been deaths and there have been suprise tubers or plants planted and I have no time to take a full count recently.

Nothing in the world reminds me of Hillcrest Kismet. That is one orangey pink beauty to behold. Castle Drive is nice, but smaller in size and pink and yellow; although nice enough in itself.
