Birthday Babylon

Today is my birthday. What a gorgeous bloom to have for this day, it took forever to open, and it is in a smallish pot and has produced a better bloom than those in large pots. Do dahlias like small pots rather than large? Anyway, here is my beautiful Babylon - in real life a more richer crimson type of red - just stunning:

Happy Birthday Anna!! I hope you have many blooms before the frost comes.

I am a Dahlia newbie so I can't answer your pot question. Here is a bloom of my Tsuki Yori which grows in a pot and is still blooming madly. My TY in the pot grew much bigger and has more blooms than the one in the ground, but that probably has something to do with the soil. My ground is clay although enriched with compost.

Well, I should have read this last night! Happy Belated Birthday Anna. Your plant gave you a wonderful gift. I am really loving the reds this year, including your Babylon.
I haven't grown dahlias in any size pot, so I can't answer your question.

RE: Birthday Babylon

We had a tremendous wind yesterday that sent everything flying and felled a huge old tree. Happily DH forsaw to reinforce the support for my Babylon and so it was still intact when I returned home. But that tree - oh boy - what a sight!

Anna (Thanks again Sharon for the virtual bouquet at WS, and to Poochella for the virtual cake!! No calories in that!)

Cheers

Anna
