Honk if you like Honka!!!

At last my Honka bloomed, and I am not disappointed. I think this dahlia is intriguing. I love the rolled petals and with their eight-pointed star formation. The centre is more orange than in this shot. I'll try again tomorrow if I can get the right natural light.

Honk, Sharon! I do believe Honka is going to be one of my last plants to cut down. I have a recent photo, but too tired to upload and post right now; but Honka is covered in late season blooms. It's just a little multi-blooming trooper and such a nice star shape to contrast with all the rounds of other dahlias. Like Willow said, 'a bouquet of stars' from this wonderful plant.

Poochella. I would love to see a photo of your Honka. How tall is it? When did yours start blooming? Mine has lots of buds but I will be lucky if I get to see two more open. I've got to start earlier next year.

This isn't the original photo, it's buried in my camera; but this gives you an idea of the bloom potential.

And 3 in a blurry closeup

Wait! I was so smitten with Honka photos I forgot your questions LOL, sorry. Mine is ~3.5 ft tall and when did it begin blooming? Well, I would guess early August. This year, I was not able to plant many tubers until mid or even late May or June in some cases, so about 80 days.
And here is an early single version of Honka. I love it, except for that loathesome bug in the 10 o'clock petal!

Aaah!! That last closeup captures the orange centre nicely. Okay so mine made it to full height but didn't get enough time to develop more buds. The tubers were in a small pot until July when I finally put them in the ground.
