I have grown dahlia plant , now the stem is very thin but plant has grown tall why is this happening??

I took this plant from a friend, he doesnt know variety of Dahlia it is. I have grown it in pot. weather is cold with tempatures between 50 to 70 F.

I think its the intensity and duration of light which is causing this stretching (low intensity and short duration)

Did you pinch it? Pinching enables the plant to get bushy and the main stem to enlarge.

pinching is ok if male plant. However if female plant you may get your face slapped. Steve S.
