Undug Dahlia

According to my book, I was supposed to dig my dahlia out in the fall, store it in sand, baby it & then replant it in the spring. I did not. I can see wood down there in the dahlia spot. Is it going to come back or did I kill it? I want to know so that if I killed it I can plant over it.

It is a "Semi Cactus Dinnerplate Dahlia" Subburst.

Thanks!

My thinking is that it will probably survive your "cold" period. Dahlias should be hardy to zones 8 and above. You should be fine.

I leave mine in the ground in San Jose. When the tubers begin to rise above ground I know it's time to divide them, with the shovel primarily.
