| Has anyone used those white things thata come in packed boxes to make big containers not so heavy. Fill up the bottom and than put the dirt in??? I just wonder if they would dehydrate the plants?
I put fireplce ashes in the raised beds last week. Today I put in gypsom and super phosphate. Should I lay off? |

| I use empty water bottles in some of my large containers to cut down on the weight. You might get too many air pockets with the packing peanuts, but maybe not. My large contaniers are quite large... 6ft+ a round, so watering is not an issue for me, but they do dry out faster because there is less soil. I also use clay pots so they are heavy enough to not tip over in the wind. Keriann |

| Water makes packing noodles start to shrivel up and disintegrate. Over time your soil would start to collapse I think. -Katy |

| the old noodles were plastic & are going to be around for a million years-- the newer ones are made of cornstarch & go away when wet. So-- if you have old ones you might be OK-- newer ones-- your soil will be at the bottom of the pot after the first watering. Give them a try- put some in a container & pour water on them. If they're still there holding their shape the next day they're probably the old ones. |

| I use just about anything to lighten up my containers---including crushed diet coke cans. That said, if you are not thinking of lightening but of drainage, the container forum has a lot to say on that issue---you might want to take a peek. Regards, Luc |
