Woke up yesterday to find some "sparklies" bought (unbeknownst to me) on our recent trip to Tanzania...all a girl could ask for on her birthday, right? But then I got taken to the farmer's market where I was "forced" to pick out 3 new dahlia tubers!
I chose Caribbean Fantasy, Hissy Fitz, and Ferncliff Cameo. And the owner threw in an extra C.F., and his dahlia calendar--good marketing on his part, as I'll spend so much time drooling over those pictures every time I look at it that I know I'll end up buying more! |

Great idea 12 months of pictures of me on a calendar , what more could a woman ask for. I can hear the wife coughing and the daughter saying dad.

Happy Birthday! I think the trip to Tanzania sounds fantastic and of course the sparklies too. Sounds like you got some good dahlias too! Who could ask for more? Linda

How are your dahlias doing? I have mine in the ground, but I can't see you doing that in your zone.

Just returned home after being gone for 2 weeks...thanks to my son who came over and watered once or twice, they are doing great. Some are 3 feet tall, and Rock Star has huge buds already. A few more might have buds, but haven't had time to check them all. This week is in the 50s, so I'll move them back to the garage for night and outside during the day. If nighttime temps stay above freezing, it's out to the greenhouse soon!

Wow I would have never guessed. My best growing dahlia is only about a foot tall. We have had days here in the 80ties. Also many more in the 40ties. You must have started yours long before me.

I would prefer that they weren't so far along, but some tubers had begun to mold, so I took them all out to put a stop to that; from there it just kind of took off to seeing which ones had good eyes, and then they sprouted, and then I planted...sometimes I just can't help myself!
