Experimenting with new shoots and pics of my Dahlia's

One of my favorite dahlia's (first two pics below) from last year is sending out so many little shoots right next to each other. I noticed that the main tubers have quite a bit of rot starting at the ends so I have cleaned them up and cut them back to the good part of the tuber. They are currently drying before I replant. Anyways, I decided to cut off several of the little shoots, dipped them in rooting hormone and stuck them in some seed starting soil. They are pretty much smaller than half an inch, has anyone rooted ones that small? I will post my results.

I loved the colour of this one and it must have had 100+ buds when it froze.

A few others, the one on the bottom right had the most stunning colour change going from pale yellow on the bottom, to peach and then dark yellow on top. I'm not sure if it made it through the winter as I couldn't figure out which one it was when I dug up the tubers. It was stuck in my overflow garden and only bloomed once.

The "Paprika Beauty" was larger than a softball and I kept it alive all winter and I'm now taking slips.

Beautiful dahlias. I really like the peach and yellow one.

These are gorgeous - the "color change" one especially. Stunning indeed. Good luck with the rooting of such tiny slips - keep us posted on their progress.

I agree gladzoe, great photo especially of the peach/yellow color change one. Very sharp focus. The large red dahlia is pretty nice too, to me. I've never tried to start 1/2" shoots, but the worst that can happen is that it will compost before your eyes.
